ORBERA™INTRAGASTRIC BALLOON

We use the ORBERA™ Intra-gastric Balloon, the global market leader with more than 220,000 procedures safely performed. Without any incisions, it is safe and suitable for patients with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of above 27 who cannot have or do not wish to consider invasive surgery but for whom diet, exercise or pharmaceutical interventions have not worked.

Just as it sounds the ORBERA™ balloon is designed to be placed in a patient’s stomach. It is made from soft and durable silicone, inserted via a safe, short endoscopic procedure under general anaesthetic, and filled with blue-dyed saline until it’s about the size of a grapefruit. The procedure normally takes about 20-30 minutes and patients generally go home the same day. Light sedation can be used instead if you prefer.

The ORBERA™ balloon has been around for over 20 years. It works not only by taking up space to help with portion control but also when you eat you more rapidly, your hunger receptors are switched off. Once the balloon is in place, you can concentrate on setting up a healthy lifestyle for the future and kick-start your weight loss. At six months, the balloon is deflated and removed in the same way it was placed.
